An OsmAnd Update Counts as a Download

Free Android OsmAnd gives you seven country files. Refreshing France spends the same slot as fetching Portugal. The route still calculates on the phone.

The OsmAnd homepage is a hairpin road and three store badges. "Offline Maps and Navigation." A Features button with a map, a compass, and a mountain. Read only that, and the job looks like Google Maps without a US account.

OsmAnd homepage: Offline Maps and Navigation, a Features button, App Store, Google Play, and AppGallery badges, and Android screenshot cards for travel maps, offline navigation, topography, and POI search
osmand.net, 26 August 2026. The hero is a mountain road. The product is a file on the phone.

Scroll to Navigation. That column is the actual ship. Turn-by-turn. Lane guidance if you want it. Reroute when you leave the line. Search by address, by type, or by coordinates. Their line, not ours:

OsmAnd homepage Map and Navigation columns: fully offline maps of any region, and Works totally offline with no roaming charges when you are abroad
osmand.net, 26 August 2026. The route is a local calculation once the country file is on the device.

The user guide is colder. Offline navigation is enabled by default. You can still point it at an online engine. You cannot build a route if the map source is an online tile. The file has to be there. That is not a slogan. It is a missing-maps dialog.

Amstelveen, a company that sells country files

OsmAnd B.V. sits at Logger 41 in Amstelveen, KvK 62066714. Victor Shcherb started it in 2010. The privacy policy still names that address. EuroMakers files the listing under Productivity because you navigate with it. The company is Dutch. The map data is OpenStreetMap. The bill is for how many country files you may put on the phone.

Here is the claim a catalog card cannot give you. On the Android purchases page today, Free does not get unlimited downloads. It gets seven. The next row, monthly map updates, is also seven. An update is a download. Refreshing France spends the same slot as fetching Portugal.

OsmAnd Android purchases table: Free is ad-free with seven map downloads and seven monthly map updates; Maps+ and Pro unlock unlimited downloads; hourly live updates and 3D relief are Pro only
osmand.net/docs/user/purchases/android, 26 August 2026. The free column repeats seven twice. That is the meter.

Map download or update is meant only download-update of a country (region) map. World overview map, World altitude correction, Map fonts and Voice prompts are not counted as 7 possibilities to download.

— osmand.net/docs/user/purchases/android

The world overview is a freebie. So are fonts and voices. A country file is not. There is no single package for the planet. You pick regions. iOS is tighter still: five, not seven. OSM mappers get the cap lifted. Everyone else meets the table.

On that page today, Europe-region prices are €69,99 one-time for OsmAnd+ or the Maps+ in-app, €14.99 a year for a Maps+ subscription, and OsmAnd Pro at €5.99 a month or €39.99 a year. Maps+ is the unlimited-download product: topography, nautical depths, offline Wikipedia, Android Auto. Pro adds hourly updates, 3D relief, and the large Cloud. The Amazon store is gone. Android Auto is Google Play only.

Offline is not the same as silent

A homepage customer blurb still says OsmAnd doesn't collect user data. The policy dated 25 August 2026 is narrower. Map downloads are tied to a UUID, the IP that fetched the file, the time, and the region list. Screen-name analytics are off until you switch them on. Pro Cloud sits on Scaleway and Amazon. Do not buy this as a product with no servers anywhere.

Who should not buy it

Buy something else if you want live traffic from a US maps account, a two-tap interface, or one file for the whole world. OsmAnd will still route on the phone. It will also count the refresh.

  • You want Waze-style live jams and a map that just appears. Wrong product.
  • You will cross eight countries this year and you will not pay. The eighth file is the bill.
  • You planned to keep France current for free. The update spends a slot.
  • You need Android Auto and you installed from Huawei AppGallery. They do not ship it there.
  • You need Pro Cloud and you will not accept Amazon as one of the hosts. Scaleway is not the only name on that page.
  • You wanted a meter you can ignore. The honest purchase is the one-time Maps+ / OsmAnd+ license, unless you pick the yearly Maps+ subscription on purpose.

If you want OpenStreetMap as a file, a route that calculates without roaming, and you will pay before the eighth country — start with the listing, then read the Android purchases table. The homepage will show you a mountain road. The table will count the refresh.

The German file-based CMS has no posts table. Content Folder in Neckargemünd sells a launch license — and since Kirby 5.5 it checks whether your "development" install is actually on the open web.

Navor Does Not Keep the Judgment

The Lausanne accounting app sells autopilot. Its Valais work says the opposite: the model reads the invoice, forgets it, and leaves the decision with the auditor.
