What makes software eligible for inclusion on EuroMakers
Main Criteria
1. European Development
The software must be primarily developed in Europe. This means:
- The company or organization must be headquartered in a European country
- For open source projects, the majority of core contributors should be based in Europe
- The primary development team should be located in Europe
2. Quality Standards
The software should meet certain quality standards:
- Must be actively maintained with regular updates
- Should have documentation available
- Should have a clear privacy policy
- Must not contain malware or other harmful code
3. Compliance with European Values
The software should align with European values and regulations:
- Should respect user privacy and data protection
- Should aim to be compliant with GDPR if handling personal data
- Should promote digital sovereignty and independence
Secondary Considerations
Open Source Preference
While not required, we have a preference for open source software that promotes transparency, collaboration, and digital sovereignty. Open source projects that originated in Europe or have significant European contributions are highly valued.
Accessibility and Inclusivity
Software that is designed to be accessible to all users, including those with disabilities, and that supports multiple European languages is preferred.
Innovation and Uniqueness
We value innovative solutions that address specific European needs or showcase European technological capabilities and expertise.
Submission Process
Our team reviews all submissions to ensure they meet our criteria. The review process typically includes:
- Initial screening: We check if the software meets our basic requirements
- Verification: We verify the European origin and development of the software
- Quality assessment: We evaluate the software's functionality, maintenance status, and documentation
- Final decision: Based on our assessment, we decide whether to include the software in our directory
